New Medium publication updates are rolling out

Hi there, We're rolling out an updated version of Medium publications over the next week, starting today. The main changes in the updated version are technical improvements which will unlock the ability for us to launch bigger and better publication improvements and features in the future. While you won't be able to see these behind-the-scenes technical changes, there are also some visual changes, settings updates, and general improvements that will make it easier for editors like yourself to manage publications. Here's the blog post announcing the changes. Here's what you can expect: Publication management settings, including editing the About page, are now all in one place, making it easier to review and edit your publication. You can check it out in the Manage publication dropdown menu located at the top right of your publication homepage. We've standardized design across publications and Medium pages, improving the way writers and readers learn about your publication.  We've created a new feed option in your publication where readers can filter and find certain types of stories in your publication. We've updated the look of publications on both web and mobile for a more seamless experience. When your publication gets access to these new changes, we recommend that you review the following settings: 1. Publication background image: All background images will now have the same aspect ratio, making it more consistent across publications. If your publication had a background image, it has been automatically reformatted to fit the image dimensions. Go to your publication homepage and review your publication background image. You'll want to make sure the image is cropped the way you want, and is not blurry. If you'd like to make any changes to your publication background image, head over to the Manage publication dropdown menu, select "Info & Homepage", and edit your background image in the Homepage tab. 2. Permanent About tab on your navigation bar: We're now making the About tab a permanent tab on your publication navigation bar. We've made this change to make it easier for writers and readers to learn more about the publication and to create consistency across publications. Please review your About page and the Note from the editor displayed there. To edit the note, click on the About option in the Manage publication dropdown menu, and edit your note directly on the About page.  3. Navigation tabs: We also recommend checking your tabs on your publication's navigation bar. If you had created your own custom About tab, you may now have a duplicate About tab. Please review and edit your tabs by going to the Manage publication dropdown menu and selecting Navigation.  Please note the following changes: Certain navigation tabs will create a content feed that filters your stories based on your navigation selection. Archive now filters your stories to show stories from earlier to latest. Trending has now changed to Most popular stories. 4. New option to enable newsletter signup: We've added the option for publications to opt-in and enable newsletter signup on your publication's Home and About pages. When enabled, a newsletter signup button and banner will display on your publication's homepage, and a newsletter signup button will appear on the About page. If you do not opt-in, readers will only be able to subscribe to your publication newsletter on your publication newsletter page. To enable newsletter signup on your publication's Home and About pages, go to your newsletter page, click on the More options dropdown and select Settings. From there, check the box under the Promotion section that says "Enable newsletter signup on your publication's Home and About pages." 5. Story section formatting: Take a moment to review how your stories are formatted on your publication. We've removed the "Mixed" formatting option. Any publications that have previously chosen that format will now have the "Stream" option.  You can select from several other options by heading to the Manage publication dropdown menu. From there, click on Info & Homepage, select the Homepage tab, and find the format that best suits your publication. We've created a video going over these settings. You can check it out here.
